Depression Therapy

Depression is a mood disorder that impacts millions of people across the nation. It can impact how you see the world, how you feel about things, and your relationships. Depression can cause intense and relentless feelings of sadness, loss of pleasure in life, and so much more. Those who are affected by depression can benefit from seeing a therapist for help. Starting the journey towards better mental health is only a phone call away.

What Depression Looks Like

Those who have depression can see positive changes to their mental health with therapy. After a consultation and initial session, a therapist can let the patient know whether they have depression, something else, or several influencing factors. To be diagnosed with depression, certain symptoms must be present for a minimum of two weeks. Symptoms of depression include:

  • Hopeless outlook
  • Losing interest in hobbies
  • Sleep problems
  • Increased fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Irritability
  • Changes in weight or appetite

About Talk Therapy

One of the most common treatments for depression is talk therapy. The therapist provides a safe space for the patient to talk about their thoughts and feelings without judgement. In this way, the patient can seek to understand the causes of their depression and explore issues of trust from the past. Many people with depression have had trauma, so they are encouraged to talk about their childhood if and when they are ready to do so.

A therapist doesn’t tell a patient what to do, it is their role to listen and offer a compassionate ear. Additionally, a therapist will gently guide the patient towards awareness and give them tools on how to combat depression.

It’s never too early or too late to get support from a therapist. If you or a loved one struggles with depression, reach out to a therapist right away, similar to a counselor for depression therapy at Lotus Wellness Center.
