My Background

I have worked for 15 Years in the field of counseling in behavioral health care facilities, neurological clinics, hospitals, non-profit organizations, and schools in India and in United States. I have earned MA in Clinical Psychology from Indira Gandhi National Open University New Delhi and now I am interning to complete my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University, Virginia. For as long as I remember, I saw creativity and sensitivity as significant traits of my individuality.

I started my journey as an art instructor for children with special needs and adults with mental disorders at a neurological clinic. The feeling that my efforts can bring positive changes in the lives of people in need changed my life. My love for art and a deep interest in studying the human mind & behavior lead me to my graduate program in Clinical Psychology and research on Effect of Art Therapy on Aggression in middle school students. This helped me explore and establish the power of art and journaling as therapeutic tools in counseling. My thirst for knowledge has no end and I keep adding new skills to my repertoire. I believe that life is not just about finding our purpose but a continuous process of creating ourselves each day.

Clinical Expertise

I have years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families in various settings. For a long time, I have helped parents and adolescents manage disruptive behavior by helping them gain an insight into issues behind the behavior. I have also gained experience in individual and couples counseling. I am SYMBIS certified and have knowledge of premarital and marital counseling.

I use an integrative approach combining Cognitive Behavior Techniques, Therapeutic Art Techniques, Humanistic and Existential Approach, Spirituality and Mindfulness Concepts, according to individual needs and preferences. I have special interest in helping adolescents with life skills development and adults to recognize their true selves, unlock their true potential and find their purpose to lead a life of fulfillment.

About Me

I am happily married for 25 years and am a mother of a young adult son and an adolescent daughter. I enjoy working with clients from diverse backgrounds. I am a first-generation immigrant and understand issues related to immigrant families and acculturation. I have a clear understanding about challenges of adjustment and multigenerational cultural conflicts that may arise in immigrant families, causing self-image and self-esteem issues. In addition to English, I am fluent in Hindi and understand Urdu. I enjoy painting, reading, and journaling in my free time.

I am an empathetic listener with an ability to provide unconditional positive regard to my clients. I like to create a warm and safe place for my clients to help them process and express their thoughts and feelings. I use client focused, non-judgmental approach to provide genuine care in my relationship with my clients.
